Psychotic depression is very different from other forms of depression. They are often mistaken to other forms of depression like the major depression or non-psychotic disorders. But about 0.4% of the population are widely affected by Psychotic depression. But they have unique features and characters that help identify them and be treated. It this form of depression the person suffers or believes things that are not true or cannot be supported. The treatment for this is a combination antidepressants and antipsychotics. However depression coping strategies may help out in few cases.
Bipolar patients have a tendency to get affected by a psychotic depression. These patients have a feeling that they are given special attention others who are trying to persecute them. Not only delusions but they even report that they can see or hear things that other don’t see or hear. Paranoid delusions or delusions of guilt are the common signs of psychotic depression. Holiday depression is very common during holidays when people sometimes feel very lonely and isolated. Other common symptoms are agitation, lack of sleep, waking up in late nights, etc. It is better to pay special attention when these symptoms are noticed in a person or else there is greater risk of suicide in these patients.
